Conditions Treated

The World Health Organization, working with the National Institute of Health, put together a team of scientists to produce a consultation paper on acupuncture. This was published in 2003. It brought together evidence from 255 clinical trials that were published before the beginning of 1999. Later research, conducted by the NIH, stated that, along with pain relief, there is evidence that acupuncture helped relieve 50 other health problems. The WHO recommends acupuncture for these diseases, symptoms or conditions, because acupuncture has been “proven – through controlled trials – to be an effective treatment”:

  • Ailments of the Joints, Muscles, Bones and Nervous System, such as shoulder, low back, and neck pain, arthritis, migraine headaches, neuralgia, Peripheral Neuropathy
  • Adverse reactions to radiotherapy and/or chemotherapy
  • Headaches / Facial Pain(including craniomandibular disorders)
  • Hypertension,essential / Hypotension, primary
  • Respiratory ailments, such as allergies, bronchitis, sinusitis
  • Gastrointestinal ailments, such food allergies, nausea and vomiting,gastritis, indigestion, chronic diarrhea, peptic ulcers and anorexia, weight gain, obesity
  • Rheumatoid Arthritis / Osteoarthritis
  • Uro-genital Ailments, such as urinary tract infections and stress incontinence
  • Morning sickness / Premenstrual Syndrome
  • Emotional and Psychological Disorders, such as anxiety and depression, ADD, ADHD
  • Addictions, such as nicotine, alcohol and drugs
  • Ear, Nose and Throat ailments
  • Chronic and painful ailments which have no clear origin or explanation.
